SHAREit alternative: send files fast without installing an app
By Thavasi · Updated 31 October 2026
For years, SHAREit and Xender were how most people in India sent files between phones. Then, on 29 June 2020, the Government of India banned both, along with 57 other apps. Many people still look for a replacement that is just as fast and works offline. Here are the options that work today.
Don't install SHAREit or Xender from APK sites. Copies of banned apps on random download sites are a common way to spread malware and adware. The options below are free, safe and legal.
Quick comparison
| Option | Install an app? | Works between | Needs internet data? |
|---|---|---|---|
| WifloShare (browser) | No | Any phone, laptop or tablet | Only to connect; files go over Wi‑Fi or hotspot |
| Quick Share | Built into Android | Android phones, Windows PCs, some phones with iPhone and Mac | No |
| LocalSend | Yes, on every device | Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, Linux | No |
| AirDrop | Built in | Apple devices (and some newer Android phones) | No |
Option 1: WifloShare, no app at all
SHAREit's big advantage was speed: files went straight from one phone to another over Wi‑Fi instead of through the internet. WifloShare works the same way, but inside the browser, so there's nothing to install on either device.
- Join the same Wi‑Fi, or turn on a hotspot On the sending phone, turn on the hotspot and connect the other device to it. This is what SHAREit did automatically.
- Open wifloshare.com on the sending phone Choose your files: photos, videos, documents, anything. You get a 6‑character code and a QR code.
- Scan the QR code with the other device Or type the code into the Receive tab. Then tap Download.
There's no size limit, several files arrive as one ZIP, and nothing is uploaded to a server. It works phone to phone, phone to laptop, and laptop to laptop, including between Android and iPhone.
Try it now: open wifloshare.com on both devices. It's free, with no sign-up and no size limit.
Open WifloShareOption 2: Quick Share (Android)
Quick Share, formerly Nearby Share, is built into most Android phones. Open the share menu on any file and tap Quick Share. It's fast and works offline, and Google offers a Quick Share app for Windows. Some newer Android phones can now also send to iPhones and Macs through AirDrop. The limitation: the other device needs Quick Share too, so it won't help with older laptops or most iPhones.
Option 3: LocalSend (free app for every platform)
LocalSend is a free, open-source app for Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac and Linux. Once both devices have it installed and are on the same Wi‑Fi, they can see each other and send files quickly. It's a good choice if you share between the same devices often and don't mind installing an app on each one.
Option 4: AirDrop (Apple)
Between iPhones, iPads and Macs, AirDrop is the easiest option. It doesn't work with Windows PCs or most Android phones.
Which should you use?
- Sending to someone once, any device, no installing: WifloShare.
- Android to Android, often: Quick Share.
- The same mix of devices every day: LocalSend.
- All Apple devices: AirDrop.
Tips for the fastest transfer
- Use a hotspot or Wi‑Fi on the 5 GHz band if your phone offers it. It's much faster than 2.4 GHz.
- Keep both devices close together, with their screens on, until the transfer finishes.
- On Windows, set the Wi‑Fi network to Private, or Windows may block the connection.
